The Hawaiian Islands are made up of six islands: Hawaii, Maui, Lanai, Molokai, Oahu, and Kauai.

About Hawaii – Island of Kauai
Kauai is the oldest island in the chain of Hawaiian Islands and is known as “the Garden Isle” because of its green lushness and beauty. Captain Cook first landed on the island in 1778, returning home to tell of a paradise found in the Pacific, thereby introducing Hawaii to the world. Kauai today is known for its world class sport fishing, outdoor activities and the famous Napali Coastline.
Getting to Hawaii
Check the Internet for specials- as a little creativity can get you to Hawaii for far less than you’d imagine. One easy way to get to Hawaii inexpensively is to fly a discount carrier like Jet Blue into Los Angeles, and then take advantage of the many carriers, (like Hawaiian Air) offering inexpensive flight deals to the Hawaiian Islands.

Direct flights to Kauai Island Lihue (LIH) are available from American, and United, out of Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Non-stop flights are available through United Airlines from Los Angeles and San Francisco, American Airlines from Los Angeles, Alaskan Airlines from Seattle, and US Airways from Phoenix. United, American, Delta,, Hawaiian and Continental all serve Honolulu International Airport (HNL).

If flying into Honolulu or Kona, “island hopping” by plane is easy and quick and inexpensive. Kauai is a short 25 minute flight by Hawaiian, Island Air or Go Air. Don’t forget to take a good look out the window as you begin to descend to Kauai, as the 360* view of the island is dramatic and unforgettable.

Best time to visit Kauai
Because Kauai lies at the edge of a tropical zone, it typically only has two seasons, both warm. Year round temperatures are between *70-85 degrees, depending where you are. Kauai is a series of microclimates; when it’s raining in one part of the island, another part will be dry. General rule of thumb is that the rainy season generally runs in the winter, from November to March, with rainy days often consisting of a mix of rain and clouds, followed by periods of sun.
